Hi, Arjun,
My instructional site on pbase generates 30 or so comments a day. About ten of them are legitimate. The others are spam, almost all of them left in my guestbook. As you say, it is a pain to place the curser and hit delete 20 times each day, every day. And when I go out on a three week shoot, I return home to find 600 spams in my guestbook.
I have been using, as recommended here on the forum, the option that allows comments from guests, but does not display them without my approval. However it is reaching the point now where cleaning up the mess is simply taking too much of my time. Like others here, I wish there was a way that we could handle spam prevention differently for the guestbook as opposed to our galleries.
I've enjoyed teaching guests as well as pbase members for the last three years, but the time has come when cleaning up the deluge of spam overwhelms that pleasure. As of today, I began refusing all guest comments throughout my entire site. Pbase members, of course, can still post comments if they wish to do so.
I hope that those who deslgn the various pbase features will grasp the need for separate spamming prevention for the guestbook. In that way, I can once again begin to serve the needs of the many guests who seek teaching help in my galleries.
