Canon 5D Mark II

Post Mon Dec 15, 2008 5:56 pm

Does anyone know where I can buy the new Canon 5D MArk II ????

At the same time, does anyone have experience with this camera. It seems to be interesting.
I am in search for a new camera and I'm attracted to this new Canon.
Any thoughts ?

you might be better of waiting for a comprehensive review to come out, plus avoiding all the hysteria and price gouging currently underway. there are also bargains to be had on the first 5d. patience is a virtue.

I've been waiting for the price on the old 5D to drop. And that's exactly what has happened.
I just bought a slightly-used 5D (<1000 shutter cycles) on ebay for a pretty decent price.
It should arrive sometime next week. I'm pretty thrilled about it, actually.
The IQ on the old 5D is still awesome, IMHO. I'm sure I'll be very happy with it.

I agree that you should wait because

(a) the price will drop in the next six months
(b) any faults with the new model will be fixed by Canon.

In the past, I have bought new cameras within a couple of months of them being introduced to find that a year or so later, the price dropped by at least 50%.

Are you sure they are not just hot pixels ? (if they are bright pixels on a black background then they probably are hot pixels).

Hot pixels are fairly normal on digital cameras when taking long exposures - that is why most astronomical imaging software (such as MaxIm DL or Registax) allows you to sample the hot pixels from your camera and subtract them from your shots.

You are lucky to have such a beautiful camera - enjoy it !
