New to pbase: my "cyberbook" on travel photography

I just joined pbase this past week, and look forward to sharing my interest in travel photography with all of you. I am a photographic educator by trade, and after 33 years of teaching I find that I still have a lot to learn. One way to do this is to share my views on expressive travel photography with you.

This week I am posting my collection of nine pbase galleries, entitled "Travel Photography: Communicating with Pictures,” I am sharing it with all of you as a "cyber-book" on photographic expression. It contains over 100 of my favorite images, selected from the portfolios of my travel photojournalism I've posted at worldisround.com. http://worldisround.com/home/pnd1/index.html).

Instead of explaining how I made these photos in terms of their technical standards and techniques, I show them to you as examples of how I use a camera to express my feelings and ideas about what I see on my travels. I hope that this "cyber-book" can help you to express your own ideas in your own photography. I look forward to adding new examples periodically, and I welcome your comments and questions.

Hmmm, sounds interesting, but when I click on the link I get the "page cannot be displayed" message. Have you changed your style sheets? Perhaps they don't work?

Interesting. If I click on the "Photos" icon below your message, your pbase galleries come up just fine. If I click on either of the links in the message itself I get the "page can't be displayed" message.

I just noticed that I left the .com off in the link in my message above. Thanks for catching it, porc.

I guess that's why you had trouble accessing my photo when clicking on the link in the text of my message above, and why you were able to see them when you clicked on the "Photos" icon below my message.

Thanks Phil for alerting me to these wonderful images. Shots like these are certainly raising the bar in PBase. Perhaps you can visit Oz in the not too distant future. We have incredible light down here - sometimes a tad too much sometimes ! I sometimes yearn for the softer light of Europe.

Thanks for the warm welcome to Pbase, Sheila. Coming from a photographer whose own images speak so eloquently, I'm honored by your comments on my pictures. As for taking advantage of the light "down under someday", I am sure that day will eventually come. You certainly make the most of light, as well as abstraction, human values, and incongruity, in your own work. Your picture of "The now defunct Luna Park" (http://www.pbase.com/image/17775871) will forever linger in my mind. Tremendous image -- that huge head breathing light, surrounded in mist -- is something right out of dream. Thanks, Sheila, for sharing your gifts.
