It was great to see such a good turnout for this week's contest - let's keep it up. And many fine entries. I asked for "expansive" coastlines but at the end of the day, my eye was most attracted to the unusual views and lighting, while still having a wide view.

Honorable mentions:

Heavy skies and a wide coastline from Markus Grompe:

I could really feel the water in this shot from Peter Schultz:

This from Jola D. could win in the expansive category:

Good early morning capture from Margaret Lew:

Lovely sunset shot from J. Rayner with islands in the distance:

A very cool shot with selective focus by Walter Koenig (who had other nice entries):

Third place: Wonderful panorama from Gill Kopy, must be viewed in original mode to appreciate:

Second place: Lovely dramatic effect on the Australian coastline by David Decroix:

And the winner is: Wonderful mood in this late afternoon shot by Arnie Peterschmidt. This shot provides the breadth and depth, as well as a color and an ethereal mood with the fog. The bird in the upper left is a nice accent. Truly a winning shot, for me. Hat's off to you Arnie!

Thank you Ken for selecting my photograph as the winner and for an inspiring theme. I could see that the sunset was developing into a spectacular scene on an unseasonably mild evening. The tide was unusually low which exposed the wide beach and drew the people out to dig clams. I'll get to work on another theme.
