Honorable mentions:
Strong in-focus textures flowing, curving and descending to the out of focus background from Ken Zaret
Its hard not to like the selective focus and monochrome treatment of this one from Marcel de Jong
Third place to Walter Koenig. I suggest taking time to let your eyes wander through this classic leading lines style image, from the foreground textures to the twelve different ships in the background.
Second place also goes to Walter. The strong foreground textures on the rails, shadows across the decking and overall monochrome treatment were excellent for this well positioned viewpoint.
And although the rails lead to nowhere, in this case nowhere is good.
First place belongs to Marcel de Jong. I liked how the foreground focused fence leads the observer away from and then back to the subject. Due to the subtle shadows of the picket on the fence rail, the light must have been filtered through clouds and I think this works for this image as the vegetation is subdued, directing attention to the fence itself.
