A favorite photo in 2009

"Dawn in the Very Heart Of Estrela Mountain Range". Portugal Landscape by Photographer Hélio Cristóvão

Image made during a sunrise in the Summer solstice in a natural lagoon, deep in Estrela Mountains, Portugal, the highest mountain range in the country. During the Sunrise, the mountain peaks are illuminated by the "hot" tangential light, while Spring colors naturally frames the scene. To be in the spot on time, I slept (tried to) in the mountain, hiking for 1 and half hour during the previous afternoon to achieve the height of 1670 mt., 200 mt. below the starting point.

Taken along my favorite stretch of road - Highway 395. Finally decided to brave a bit of winter weather.

Enjoy!
