Walter please do not put words in my mouth. The contest had Moderators as a collective group of people when it was not automated.
We all would address the issue like we have now and would have moved on, based on the *Rules* and guidelines.
When slug and Emily were kind enough to automate the process we lost the collective moderation we once had in place.
Walter you have been civil in the exchanges with me about rules and guidelines in other areas of Show and Tell.
Other people have not and I have lost all respect for them when they use vile terms, all the while talking about proper etiquette, they are hypocrites.
I have no desire to be associated with them in any way, or as little as possible as I can while still enjoying PBase.
I was pointing out that no one was breaking any website rules, in the case of the contest rules have been broken.
One was a grass roots contest setting our own guidelines the other issue is a website forum issue, apples and oranges.
I disagree with you Dennis. There are some "unwritten rules", and when someone completely dominates the forum with the same post over and over for years then one of these "unwritten rules" has been broken. It is just like the "unwritten rule" where you expect people to be civil and not use "vile terms" in their discussions with you in this forum. Not everything needs to be spelled out, there are some things that are self evident, and that street photography is a problem is obvious.
Emily has indicated that she would appoint moderator(s) to this forum. When this is done rules should be drawn up on the use of the forum, and these should include rules for the contest which you want, not having thousands of threads of the same subject, and also some basic rules of civility. Moderators should have the power to remove inappropriate posts.
I am the organizer of a very active photo group (link below), and though I do not like too much regulation, some basic rules have to be in place because otherwise it becomes unmanageable and certain people dominate, which is what is happening here.
I am also active on the PaD Forum, which has many more photographic posts than this forum, and I find it very interesting that none of the regular contributors to that forum are active here. I think a lot of subscribers are put off what is going on here.
This is my last post on this matter, and my last post in this forum, at least for the foreseeable future.
