Thanks for the warning, Ozzie! I guess it's up to Ron Kramer now to correct this.

Arifa, thanks for the links to Michael Jardine's wonderful travel galleries. I took the complete tour...loved it all! Here are some which I found especially striking:

Berlin Wall:

Cambodia--not even a stair rail!

“Valley of Death” in Pakistan--great shot showing how hard it must be to survive in such a place, but the green patches prove people are adaptable!

"Killing Fields" skulls:

Striking “roof of the world” shot:

pstewart wrote:Poppie, seems like people mixed with huge architectural forms makes for good photos, doesn't it? I was thinking it's the contrast between the two that does it, then realized that those massive striking geometric forms of glass and steel and stone were made by people like those pictured below in the first place. Intriguing.

CJ, I too wondered if that had been posed, but then I found the original, in color, and by the context of the gallery you know it's for real. I like it even better in color:

Dear Phylis,
I wasn't sure what you were mentioning in the first sentences in your reply. Was it general? Or where you referring to a specific image?

By the way, the picture of the women was for real indeed. It was one of those moments where you think 'got ya'. Anyway, thanks for your comments and Shadepuppy's as well!

Poppie, that first comment came to mind upon seeing the crowd of people in a church beneath an enormous gothic window...a b/w image.

Ron Horloff has some great travel galleries. Here's an image I really like because of what it is, a view of glaciers I've never seen before...it looks like highways!

Christian Juul took these. I love the nearly solid green with the fisherman just sitting there enjoying the peace.

And what’s this? King of the moths? Very regal subject, great photo!

This one is effective I think because of the variety of colors in the soft focus background and the way they seem to emanate from the web’s center...has a carnival feel, just very pleasant to look at.

Silvano's Venice galleries are spectacular. The reflections he captures in some photos don't even look real, but he assures us that they are! These selections that I cast votes for are from three different galleries.

Silvano

These are reflections of buildings in the canals.

These have outstanding composition.

If you think any of these are outstanding photos, please don't forget to cast your vote! And if you find other photos that you vote for, be sure to share them with us here. Thanks.

Right from the canals of Venice to the cages of the Bronx Zoo...so many places to find great photos. Here are some excellent shots I found in the galleries of nz1. His autumn and zoo galleries each deserve a vote in my opinion...see what YOU think: http://www.pbase.com/nz1/telephoto

Here are the ones that I voted for.

This pic has it all...great colors, composition, subject, repeated patterns, graceful forms, atmosphere...just love it!

Here the lake is orange because the surrounding trees are orange with autumn leaves. The general composition and the patterns of intersecting horizontal and vertical lines broken by the sharp diagonal of the beak and its reflection, along with the color made me want to vote for it immediately!

And here's a great shot, IMO, largely because of the color combinations and composition, but also because it's not the "same old view" we usually see of flamingoes. This one is NOT by or in water, but near woods, and it has its back to us while it turns it head...a very pleasing photo and I knew immediately I wanted to give it my vote.

These three are excellent photos for their clear focus and good exposure and all that technical stuff, of course, but also because they are portraits of birds, just headshots. Something we don't see often enough IMO. All three got my vote.

http://www.pbase.com/image/23310013 <--guessing a turkey vulture
http://www.pbase.com/image/23034006 <--emu, nasty looking!

Do you find any of these pics by nz1 worthy of your vote? If so, don't forget to click! And don't forget to share the great pics you find on PBase too!

It's great to see the popular photo list gaining terrific new photos and lots more votes per image. It's all up to YOU to determine what pics are shown there, so please remember to cast a vote for single images you like well enough to write a complimentary comment on, or think are terrific photos, as you browse galleries at PBase.

If we all keep voting, the list will have variety each week, as new pics are found and added. Then we will have more great pics to advertise to newcomers and browsers the great quality of pbase galleries!

It's fine to add your vote to those already on the list, but let's try to find NEW photos to add to it as well. So please post links here to the great ones you have stumbled across yourself.

Joe Jones has an amazing gallery of FL Everglades photos. This one is my favorite:

These are also excellent:

I voted for all of these. If you like any of them well enough, I hope you will reward Joe with your votes too. And please post links to any PBase photos you found that got your vote so we can see them too!
