Afghanistan and not the fighting

Post Tue Jul 06, 2010 8:20 pm

As I am fairly new to pbase I have been loading a fair amount pictures recently when I get the chance. Afghanistan features a lot as I spend most of my time in this country, what I have tried to do is to show another side to this country. The recent pictures I have just added show some of the Russian military armour vehicles that are scatted around Afghanistan in military hardware graveyards.

When you look at the pictures of the Afghan kids and Afghan people try, and understand what their lives must have been like having to live through thirty years of fighting. Just imagine anyone under the age of thirty years has not seen peace in their life time. When you get to meet the Afghan people they are warm and extremely generous people, sadly for this country it's a very small percentage that take the violent road. Most people do not realise that the Taliban are made up of a lot of foreign nationals that take advantage of the poor Afghans. The country suffers from outside influence that will not step meddling in Afghan affairs who prefer to keep Afghanistan unstable, this is what the coalition forces is up against. Afghan family unity is everything and if it means they have to take up arms to provide for their families they will, the Taliban pay around $300 a month. Some will become suicide bombers so their families will be paid a lump sum by the Taliban, that's how strong their family unity is.

My must humble experience is being on top of a mountain with the winds howling and there stood one tent full of holes. I was invited in and given green tea, the Afghan owner kept apologising that he had no food to offer me. Sat at the back of the tent was his wife and three children and yet he was apologising to me, I have no doubt he would have offered me his last bit of food had he had any. Enjoy the pictures and I hope you see another side to Afghanistan.
