Judge the photo of the poster above

Post Sat Apr 24, 2010 8:22 am

Hi,

Maybe this is a nice way of learning and getting feed back on your photo's:

Post a comment in this topic on the last photo stating:
+ a positive thing and
- an area for improvement.

If you want your photo to be judged you have to comment on the last photo first.

I will start with a photo on which the next poster(s) can comment untill someone else posts a photo.

Positive: On the image above, I love the flow of the soft, pastel colors.

Improvement: I don't feel worthy to comment, but I wonder if you captured more of the flower tips if it would be more reminiscent of a Georgia O'Keeffe floral painting? I think that would draw me to the photo even more.

Question: How do you get your photo to display so much larger than I can? Help.

My submisstion:

Carol, In general I like the composition. I like the colors with the following critique. To my eye the colors are a bit muted, perhaps additional light would help add impact. I perceive the image as slightly flat.

OK Have at it...

This one is film, so to the best of my recollection mid-day full sun, f 8-11 1/200th or so?

Two suggestions, using the old school nested "[img] pbase image address.jpg[img]" tags style will result in a larger clickable image. Secondly exposure and Aperture data would be helpful in judging certain aspects of image quality.

Love the photo in B&W. It makes me think I am looking at an old WWII photo. I think you did a great job on the conversion - the tones of gray work well.

maybe try a slightly lower perspective to get more of the tarmac in the foreground and some of the underneath of the plane. It could make the plane look more imposing and powerful in the photo.

Great photo over all.

Here is my photo:

Thank you but I can't take credit for that, it's Delta iso 100 35mm film stock. I gave yet too see a conversion that carries the range of gray and the luminosity that film does. I know that it can be done, I just can't, and don't want to spend the time to do it when I know I can get it right on film. Thanks for the input. Different perspective would help with intrusive elements of the plane in the background as well. Doggone boundary tape anyway.

I should read :P

I didnt notice that you said you shot it with film. That being said, you did a great job capturing tones on B&W film. Did you use any filters?

Nope, straight exposure in blazing sun. I'm fooling around with #25 red again these days. Which would have dropped the sky into a darker zone helping emphasize the plane. Went back to film recently. B&W specifically for the reason stated above.

@ akeigher's Image

+ Great composition, the water looks awesome and the lights really add to the feel

- The right side is dark and empty, mabye crop off a little foreground and the right side.
