Your Favorite Photo

Post Mon Mar 29, 2010 2:22 am

Post your favorite image of all time that you have taken.

(I know this is going to be hard because they are all our babies!)

While I probably have 5-6 I consider to be my favorites, this is what I think my best shot is:

What do you think your best shot it?

Probably this.

Even though not technically perfect, it's probably my favorite. Tough choice though!

No idea what my favorite is, but Mrs. Amoxtli wanted this one for her desktop image, so I guess it's her favorite.

Man ...now thats asking alot.
For me, favorite has absolutely nothing to do with "best" - best being sharpness, color, IQ, or whatever, but more of a memory or connection I feel when looking at the photo. I can't say I have one, but here are a few. All of them equally bad in the eyes of others, yet equally memory stirring for me.

Niger River, Mali - I still say I have never seen anywhere so different to home or closer to feeling like your at the "end of the world". How different - have you ever been anywhere where people don't know what money is? Actual money that is - USD $100.00 is worth the same as a piece of toilet paper. It's great - highly suggest it.

Niger River, Mali - Have you ever been "buzzed" by pirates? Men to this side, women to the other - AK's handed out (empty clips) to at least make a "show of force" and persuade them to just keep going.

A helping hand.

Chong Kneas, Cambodia - Everything OK.

Dakhla Oasis, Egypt - unfortunately the girl in front is no longer here. The old mud brick walls of Mut don't take well to rain, and she picked the wrong one to fall asleep under that night. Damn.

The Four Musketeers - Abomey, Benin

I could probably go on and on. I have plenty of favorites.

Agree, this one I'm posting is technically poor and needed a lot of work to get it looking like this. I was to far away for the strobes to work fully, and thus not a lot of color in the original and a strong blue color cast.
I love it because I didn't even notice the cleaner fish while taking the picture, not until after the dive and going through the images did I notice the cleaner fish.

Maybe we should start a thread about which pictures mean the most to you.
This image by far means the most to me, it was taken way back in 1980 when I was in 8th grade. It was the first really cool picture I took, and started my love of photography that is still strong 30 year later.

Sometimes, Its about the journey and effort required to get there that makes the photo memorable.
That rewarding moment where you're setting up and blown away by what sits out in front of your lens makes all the effort worthwhile.
