Highland winter landscape

Post Sat Jan 16, 2010 1:05 am

Here is a wide angle landscape photo I took with my Mamiya 7 with Velvia film standing on the ice of the frozen river, which I like

but my partner says the following crop is much better

He prefers this crop because of the greater balance between the ice crystals and the mountain
I prefer the first crop (which is how I framed and saw he shot) because I like the shape of the break in the ice that leads the eye in to to the mountain
We have been arguing for too long about it, so I wondered what others thought...

I also prefer the cropped image, I'm afraid.

The first one is kind of two pictures in one divided by the ice band and my eyes aren't sure which to focus on. Cropping the mountain from the top of the original also provides a well balanced composition (at least in my opinion!).

Stunning landscape, by the way!

Cheers
