Dolly Sods, West Virginia

Post Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:41 pm

Here are two sunset photos from my quick (6.5 hours each way) trip to West Virginia yesterday. I wanted to get a few shots of Seneca Rocks, but the sky was not playing nice. It was a pretty stormy day with great thunderclouds, but nothing would line up right. I decided to ditch Seneca Rocks and make the trip up to the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area instead.

Dolly Sods is a basically a plateau on top of one of the mountains in the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. You drive up a dirt Forest Service road to get to the clearings on top. Lots of fun in the rain and fog, lol.

It was really windy up there (not to mention rainy at times), but thankfully a few shots came out. I jumped out of my car and rushed to set-up and get the shots before my gear got ruined. I am sure if I took more time I could have composed a better shot, but I was just thankful to get a sky like this.

I got home at 3:30 am, so I havent gone through all of my shots yet. Maybe there is something else I can add later.

I hope you enjoy!

I worked on the images just a tad because I felt they were a little underexposed. Hopefully they are better.

I think you actually have to click on the images to see the new versions.

One more from yesterday:

The high wind and quickly diminishing light forced me to shoot this at 1000 iso. So, there is a bit more noise than I would have liked.
