There are quite a few underwater photographers on PBASE. Show some photos of details underwater--verging on the abstract.

Your christmas tree worm image is awesome. I have a zillion images of them, but they all look really cliched.
What lens did you use, and how in the world did you get so close without the thing closing up ?

Thanks. It always helps to know which photos make the biggest impression on someone else.

If you are asking about the photo above, it is actually a spiral tube worm and not a Christmas Tree worm. If you are referring to a different photo, let me know which one and I can tell you what camera I used. I had never seen a spiral tube worm until I did some diving in the Med while stationed in Turkey. They are much larger than the Christmas Tree worms, and perhaps a bit more cooperative. I was using an Olympus C5050 in an Ikelite housing and a DS125 strobe. It's just the standard lens although sometimes I shoot macro.

That thing looks huge compared to a christmas tree worm. My diving is limited to Bonaire, so I'm not familar with that species.
Here is the tightest one I have of a christmas tree worm, of course he had to an all white one. I love the feather like detail you see with a real close macro shot.
I like the idea of abstract underwater, the best fish photo ops are when you have a macro set up, and can do little else with a large subject besides abstract

.

This one needs re scanned, it's done on a 2,700 ppi Nikon scanner, and I now have the 4,000 ppi Nikon scanner.

Great stuff here -- thanks for posting the thread since it has let me discover some more underwater photographers.

Here are a few of my macro abstracts. I find I have been getting more into looking for things I can light well instead of just the tiny critter hunt I used to do.
