CSS in different browsers

This is a link to a thread in the Q+A forum that started out with a question about alternative browsers to Internet Explorer. It turned out to be quite relevant to CSS, in particular the way a given piece of CSS can have quite different results in different browsers, so I'm posting a link in this forum.
