Some galleries that I have browsed have sub galleries - how are these created and can I take some existing galleries and collect them in sub galleries such as my seeing New Mexico series?

Sub-galleries are created just like galleries - just make sure that you uncheck the "Create in Root Gallery" checkbox when you're creating the gallery.

create a new gallery in the root gallery, as usual, and title it "seeing new mexico" or whatever you want to call it. then go into edit root gallery, check the box beside each of the galleries you want to put in it. then go down to where you have the option to move them and move them to the newly created gallery. then you should have one gallery titled "seeing new mexico" that when opened contains each of the new mexico subgalleries.
