I want to upload an image to pbase to act as the source for a gallery background, but I don't want the source image to be seen by visitors. Is there a way to have an image on pbase that does not appear in any gallery?

have a gallery for all that stuff and just make it "not visible". Uncheck Public Gallery

It’s true, but consider that anybody can access to that gallery
through the photo url and to see all what is posted in the gallery,
even though the gallery doesn’t appear publicly in your root gallery.

But of course, if you use that gallery only to stock there the images you want to use as “decoration” for your galleries
it’s not a big problem.

According to my limited knowledge there is not any other way and Suzanne is right.
I simply wanted to make you aware that it’s always possible to access the gallery,
and if you made every single photo “non public”,
you cannot utilise them, because they will be invisible for every one also in the context of your page appearance style.
Best!

Your point is well taken, Marisa.

In my case, the source image will be tiled as the page background, and will not be available individually to viewers unless they track it down in the html source info. It looks like a private gallery will be my solution.

Harvey,

You can also just put it in the gallery you are using it in and tag (or untag) the indivual photo as non-viewable.
