I'd like to see pbase do a better job of "down-sizing" images. The algorithm flickr uses results it much higher quality images than pbase, or at least to my eye. Unfortunately, they don't use exactly the same resolution, but I think the difference is obvious. I don't think it's the resolution either because I think the flickr "small" version looks better than the pbase "medium" version. The pbase downsized pictures look over-compressed and soft. Here's an example.
Pbase "medium" (400 pixels)
Flickr "medium (500 pixels)
Pbase "small" (160 pixels)
Flickr "small" (240 pixels)
Here's the originals (I uploaded the exact same image to both, so they should be exactly the same).
Pbase "original" (1024 pixels)
Flickr "original" (1024 pixels)
Here's another one (just comparing flickr "small" to pbase "medium")
Pbase "medium" (400 pixels)
Flickr "small" (240 pixels)
I'm not complaining exactly. I'd just like to see it get better.
