New Forum Requests

Post Thu Dec 13, 2007 8:40 pm

Here's where you should put in requests for features of the new forum.
It will be phpBB 3 and the feature list can be found here

Flood control in S&T forum, as currently implemented.

Email subscription to threads I started (or commented on) - of course should be able to disable this.

Please keep the User Avatars feature disabled, as it is now.

Killfile

Easier way to embed PBase images for use in S&T. Maybe a button which when clicked asks for the PBase URL of the image, formats the BBcode to insert the location of original version of the image as the link and the medium/small version of image as link object.

Expose moderator panel. It exists in phpbb2 as well but for some reason PBase had decided to remove it from the template, making it difficult to delete large number of spams.

Good ideas on the BBCode thing, sri.

With the groups that are possible to set up, I think spam control will be quite a bit tighter.

I agree with Srijith about an e-mail notification option and quicker embedding of photos combined with a link to the photo location.

Also, I'd like to see an improved read/unread flag. Currently it doesn't work at all (for me at least) - messages seem to get marked as read for no apparent reason. I notice that in the list of phBB 3 features there is some kind of change to Unread Message Tracking, maybe that will fix it.

This isn't exactly a feature as such, but one thing that might be worth looking at in implementing the new Forum design is why the existing one seems to keep having problems with the S&T competition threads. I think that this is about the 4th one in a row where a second thread has had to be started because something's gone funky with the original one.

It may just be a bug in the existing software which is sorted in the new version, but it's probably something worth checking out in case it IS an ongoing issue.

(As an aside, I see that the spammers are taking advantage of the Admins enjoying a well-earned rest; there are spam entries at the top of two of the Forums as I type this. While not exactly a feature of the Forum itself, I'd love to see the accounts of these spammers deleted automatically as a matter of policy. Unfortunately I doubt that there's anything in the software that would allow that to happen. Hey, I can dream...)

Link option to profile page

Post Mon Dec 31, 2007 5:49 pm

Please include link button to the "Profile" page at the top of all pages on pBase.

This is the main location that you want to get to get back to when browsing pBase. Adding this link to all pages would speed up site navigation.

Thanks Bill

Upper RH corner of all pages is a home button (if you are logged in). Does that do what you want ?

Ok, so this thread got a bit off topic, I guess.

This thread is for requests for the new forum.

I currently have a BBCode that will interpret all of these

http://www.pbase.com/username/image/7777777/large.jpg

http://www.pbase.com/username/image/7777777.jpg

http://www.pbase.com/username/image/7777777/large

http://www.pbase.com/username/image/7777777

http://www.pbase.com/image/7777777

http://www.pbase.com/image/7777777/large

7777777

7777777/large

...and probably some others. It'll post the medium image and the image will be a link to the original, unless a size is specified in which case it'll link to that size.

I aslo wonder why one cannot drag and drop for uploading. The present process is tedious.

If that is too difficult, why not remember the folder on the user's computer from which a user last uploaded. That would make it a lot easier.

I am going to lock this thread since people seem to think this is generic PBase request thread. Anyway the forum transition has already taken place.
