International character support

I have on my site the text in English, French and Polish and there is no chance to use at the same time Polish and French national characters. Finally I had to write my text replacing national characters with their Latin equivalents the most close.

What about introducing international character support and unicode?

Although my own language is English, I would like to be able to use the correct accents etc. for place names in other countries and be confident that they will appear correctly.

I'm not so sure.

If we dont use unicode, but old system - German, English and French use the same coding page, but Polish use the different one. So as far as i know there is no chance to use Polish and French at the same page, especially when you base on automatic encoding recognition by internet browser (as its done here on pbase).

Thus in my opinion introducing unicode would be welcome or at least to give the possibility to clearly specify the characters set.

Just to be clear, I was agreeing with you. As you say, relying on the user's browser encoding is a problem if you want to mix character sets. Some sort of option to use Unicode would be helpful.

I'm finding it very restrictive to have to translate all characters to standard non-accented characters. Sure I can use different encodings, but PBase itself doesn't tell the browser which encoding to use.

I'd suggest an option which sets the 'charset' header, and defaults to ISO-8859-1 so that anyone who doesn't understand it can use a 'good enough' default, but people who _do_ understand encoding can specify e.g. unicode 'utf-8' or any other encoding scheme.

This is actually a big enough issue for me that I'm considering moving off PBase unless it's addressed.

Even a fixed default would be better than the current scheme of not suggesting an encoding at all - so that browsers make up their own mind.

Instead of using a default character encoding, letting us to choose a character encoding for each gallery page is more convenience. And I believe it is not too hard to add this feature in the server side coding.

Currently, PBase don't have the char-set meta data in the head section in HMTL(eg. <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">). Sometimes, this cause the browser decode character incorrectly even if I type in unicode. Therefore, it would be nice if PBase can let us choose the charset for our gallery(eg. utf-8). I think it can be something like a pull-down list in our edit page. And the server side just need to add the meta data when generating the html code.

Hello,
I'm Spanish and I am a PBase member from more than a year. I use Mozilla Firefox and with this navigator the accents or special characters don't show right in the galleries. I don't know why or how correct it, but it would be great to be able to write the tittles or the text of my galleries and pics correctly.

I'd previously been seeing most all languages, and then lost the ability. What I'd forgotten was I'd had to reinstall XP, and
forgot to set it up to properly display. If you can't see the examples below, it might help in some circumstances to check:

I know this isn't going to help display character sets to those who haven't enabled it, but at least those using the language
