Online photo gallery comparison

Hi all,

I am not sure whether it is the right forum to discuss this but I hope to share my comment on those popular online photo gallery services providers.

Based on my initial trial on 5 online photo gallery services providers http://www.pbase.com, http://www.fotop.net, http://www.fotopic.net, http://www.fotki.com, http://www.imagestation.com), I summarized the comparison result as follows:

http://www.tonyleung.com/gallery.htm

The trial is based on my limited understandings of the services provided. Please comment if there are some typos mistakes or misunderstandings.

I excluded some other service providers which focus more on order printing e.g. http://www.photoaccess.com, etc. It does not mean that their services not OK but just not my main purpose. I also excluded some free sites e.g. http://www.phototalk.net, etc as I think it is not fair to compare free services with commerical services.

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks!

Your comparison link seems dead.

Yes, because of the server problem and should be working now.

I can see your comparison table but have no clue as to what server problem you are talking about. You have sure have done a bit of compiling.

Cheers

I see a mistake you need to correct in the table for pbase "password protected album" the answer should be "no" ( subject to change) but other than that it looks like a pretty straight forward good comparision table.

Thanks for your comment. I will update it later. Further another mistake is the 'coming feature' of slideshow by pbase.

Photos size matters in the comparison

Something I like on Pbase is absence of photos size limitation: I uploaded some (dutifully compressed) large panoramas with no problem, and size limitations are an inconvenience for some wide-angle photos and for test shoots.

Thanks!

The speed and layout of pbase is an outstanding feature I think. The thumbnail galleries here are awsome comepared to most sites. More pics...less words and very easy to navigate. Hopefully the speed will remain fast forever. :P

I don't know why but the server works now. You may check it again.

Have you anything to do with fotop?

missing seems to be a notation of who owns what.

pbase takes no ownership of your images,

imagestation, according to a post on dpreview, takes a non-exclusive ownership of your photos uploaded.

not sure about the others.

To me that is a very important detail.

Yes, I am one of the users of http://www.fotop.net. In fact I joined all the services mentioned in the comparison table to compare the features of these services.

The comparison table is just updated to reflect some recent changes in these services. Also http://www.bytephoto.com is also added. The services owner Paul is quite nice.

I am glad to compare more online photo services so as to allow users to understand more. If someone knows about other comprehensive service providers, please let me know.

Hi George,

Thanks for your comment. Yes, it is one of the important factor. However I think the service providers should not take up the ownership from the photo owner. Anyway, I may check the terms and conditions and reflect it in the comparison table if there are some grey areas.

Couple of points:

- "Photo download by batch/ZIP" - What exactly do you want this feature to do.. I am confused as to how this is different from "Zip file upload (multiple photos)"

- "Photo handling e.g. rotate, resize, move, etc" - Pbase lets you rotate photos.
