Are the load balancing systems down?

Post Fri Aug 22, 2003 1:49 pm

It appears that the load balancing systems are offline. At least mikilo, mikoga, mikuna, and mikappa are not responding.

E.g. I cannot view
http://mikilo.image.pbase.com/u27/lecoo ... 116529.jpg

but I can view
http://image.pbase.com/u27/lecook/small ... 116529.jpg

I tested this with both IE 6.0 and Mozilla under Windows XP and under Mozilla on Linux. Same behavior in all cases.

A small question.. why would you want to go around the load balancing mechanism? I ask because I know of a couple of people who think that when they directly link to mikilo etc, (instead of http://www.pbase.com deciding on who should be given the job) they get faster reply.

Maybe so, but what happens if slug just changes the server's name from mikilo to say slug(!) ?

I don't want to go around the load balancing, and I did not say that I wanted to do such a thing.

The problem I'm seeing is that my browsers are only loading a small portion of the images from pbase. I compared the urls of the images that load to those that won't load. All of the images that load are of the form http://image.pbase.com/... All of the images that won't load are of the form http://{mikilo, mikoga, mikuna, mikappa}.image.pbase.com/...

I do NOT have a problem resolving the hostnames mik*.image.pbase.com, so I assumed (mea culpa) that the servers must be down. But if others are not seeing the problem, then it is likely the problem lies elsewhere.

Thanks,
-Preston

Just to add.. I too can see it. Maybe there was indeed a problem and slug did get it working fine later?
