Promoting your pbase site

Post Fri Aug 08, 2003 5:23 pm

How do people promote their respective sites? I think that pbase is tremendously hampered by not having rss or pinging in order to notify aggregators or web directories whenever you update your site w. new material. As a result, how is anyone out there who doesn't know you going to know when you've put new stuff up?

I wonder how people deal w. this. I know of a few sites that are directories for photoblogs. I've also registered w. ODP (Google). Are you registered w. a directory/ies? If so, which one/s?

I don't promote my site, because Google often "scan" PBase. So everyone can find my pictures threw google or the other search sites that use google (like yahoo).

I don't promote.

Look at my profile page and see the counts for pages viewed http://www.pbase.com/thresholdprod/profile

If you want to have increased traffic

Upload often, this keeps you in the recent galleries list.

Take good and interesting shots and label them. dsc#### is not going to be searched for

Leave your galleries public

Join in the forums. On pbase and dpreview. The more people see you the more they will check your work out.

Never spam. This includes any hey I have new photos unless its to people that were there or have a direct interest in seeing your work( like the show & tell forum here)Its also kinda sad to have to put up with people go look at me, look at me, begging for attention.

Post some photos in the correct binaries usenet groups.
A couple of my favorites are
alt.binaries.pictures.rail
alt.binaries.pictures.cemetaries
and
alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.gothic

It takes a while to get people checking your site regularly.
I'll have a couple of hundred hits on the gallery from tonight before I will have any/all of the photos up.

yeah Ii think the MAIN reason that people go to your site is because of the sexual photo's.. tap on breasts etc etc

THAT MGIHT BE WHY... but really not everyone have semi nude pictures for people to check out and get more "PROMOTION".

All it is photos of my friends out at night clubs and parties. I have pretty high counts on the non-taped galleries also. I don't upload the more erotic photos here. The difference here is the background of our enviroments. If I worked in a kitchen I would have lots of pictures of food, chefs and waitresses/waiters.

If you want to be seen more, don't lurk join in,offer help, make your self more available and be seen. People are curious. Join in the photo challenges for you camera make.
Try taking your camera to the local watering hole or church. People love to see themselves on line.
