help with site

Post Fri Aug 01, 2003 4:54 pm

Hi I am having trouble with pbase.

If I go here http://www.pbase.com/gschewe/inbox
click on my pictures i get this
Bad Image Reference
The Image ID specified in the URL does not exist. It was probably deleted, but verify the URL.
I cannot figure out how to get rid of the pictures in my inbox since when i go to edit it, it is empty.

If I go here
http://www2.pbase.com/gschewe
click on inbox it is fine with the pictures i put in the gallery

I am havinga few other problems also. I emailed the support to maybe get my account erased so i can start over or something but no one replied. This is a paid account for my dad. I have a free account and I have no problems what so ever. My problems arised when we upgraded his account to a paid one

Maybe you can go to http://upload.pbase.com/gschewe/inbox&edit=Y and try to remove/edit the pictures. I have not used the inbox section before, but if I am not mistaken, inbox as such cannot be viewed as it is more of a scratch area that is not meant to display any image. So to remove or move images from it, you have to go to the "Edit" of that gallery and try it.
But then I could be completely off too :)

First off all links need to be for http://www.pbase.com any of the server routing names/ variations will change over time and you will have a dead link.

Now on to the real issue

What I see is two galleries in your inbox not images.

So my first guess is you deleted the images and had the inbox gallery in your browser cache and when you viewed the page it gave the cached copy not the new altered one.
You can dump your cache or hit reload/refresh several times and see the new and improved gallery.

If this isn't the case let us know.

Bigger problem?

Which brings me to the bigger question- why does the browser cache the page? If you look a typical HTTP 1.1 Reply (for page http://www.pbase.com/srijith/) from pbase.com server, it goes:
Code: Select all
HTTP/1.1 200 OK\r\n
    Date: Sat, 02 Aug 2003 04:17:34 GMT\r\n
    Server: Apache/1.3.26 (Unix) mod_perl/1.27\r\n
    Expires: Sat, 02 Aug 2003 04:17:34 GMT\r\n
    Transfer-Encoding: chunked\r\n
    Content-Type: text/html\r\n
    Connection: Close\r\n
    \r\n

As you can see the "Date" and the "Expires" contains the same value. So it should not be cached. However, there is a slight problem in this method. What is the user's computer clock is not in sync with the pbase clock? What if on receiving this reply, my box clock was "Sat, 02 Aug 2003 04:07:34 GMT", a 10 minute slow clock. So if I send a new request in say the next 10 minutes, I will be getting a cached copy.

If slug's intention was to prevent cache, he should be doing something like:
Code: Select all
Cache-Control: no-cache
Pragma: no-cache
Expires: 0

This kind of takes care of HTTP 1.1, HTTP 1.0 as well as sync problems. If he doesn't want to play with the HTTP header (it would be wise not to), slug can set the
Code: Select all
<META HTTP-EQUIV="expires" CONTENT="xyz"

tag in the HTML generated. This will however not force all caching proxies on the way to fetch a new version. But at least the browser will be forced to do it.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I think i got most of my troubles figured out. One thing I was not able to figure out is if I go to http://www.pbase.com/gschewe I still see my inbox, even though i deleted it. If I go to http://www.pbase.com/gschewe/root i see all my galleries. I created them at root level and I assume they would be visible at the first url I listed. Suggestions?

Thanks[/url]

It must be your PC as when I click on the first URL, it goes straight to your galleries.
