Each time someone views the direct link it tallys up a page view... correct?? Thanks.

Not really sure but I think they are treated seperate.

yes, they are separate.
direct links do not increase the normal hit counter.

An example:
30227 hits since 27-MAY-00
295 direct links since 27-MAY-00

the 30227 is number of pages viewed (this is accurate)

the 295 is a mostly meaningless number unfortunately.
it was intended to count the times an image was viewed by direct linking, but it actually only increments once, the first time the image is direct linked to.
basically it tells you if an image has ever been direct linked to or not.
the reason why it's sometimes higher than 1 is that it is incremented if a different size is linked to, or the direct link image cache on the pbase server is flushed.

i wish it was accurate, but it would be very expensive to accurately track it right now. hopefully in the future.
