What does voting for an image do?

Post Thu Jul 17, 2003 2:02 pm

What happens when you vote for an image? I know that voting for a gallery improves it's standing in the list of popular galleries, but there doesn't seem to be a most popular images search... unless photos with votes are more likely to show up on the random page?

Just curious :)
Thanks!

a 90% complete feature, but the clicks are being recorded.

take a look at http://www.pbase.com/galleries?view=popular_photos
which has the results. (note this page doesn't currently automaticallly update, so will be empty after a few days)

at the moment, there is not very much voting going on i think because there is not much incentive.
will revisit this eventually to make it more fun/useful.

That's a good feature, Slug.
Thanks for implementing it, and congratulations for this new forum.

i would have thought a fairer way would be via the 'hit' count a gallery or foto receives ?

surely this would be a true indication of popularity ?

perhaps we could have a feature to sort by either (votes or hit count)

zzzz..

Untill your own visit make an hit you will never have a real indication of popularity.

By actual voting(from members) it would give a truer count.Other wise there's nothing stopping someone from logging out or using a different computer to drive up there popularity.

Great feature. I love it.

Yes. I think people are more apt to vote for individual images if there is a tab for quick and easy access to the results.

What is the criteria for images appearing in the "Vote for Image" gallery? Maybe when the image has had, say, 10 or more votes, then it should be in the gallery. Sound fair, Slug?
