Could be one of two things -- probable cause is the current server problem which appears to be affecting one or more of the physical servers that store and serve up the PBase images. Second possibility is that it is a firewall issue -- I have noticed that our office firewall appears to block PBase images on a seemingly random basis.

I have many pictures that became red x's around christmas. It is always the same pictures for me though. I don't mind if it's temporary but I don't know if I have backups of some of them if it's permanent; very old pics

a simple message would be nice

I simple "attention everyone, this is the problem we are having and this is what we are doing to fix it" . that is not much to ask. It took me about 20 seconds to type this message, so pbase can do the same.

Pictures unavailable

Post Sun Jan 09, 2005 9:29 am

Beginning within the last couple of days, I began experiencing problems with photos linked to my web page not appearing. The last time this happened, back at the end of November/beginning of December, I had to reupload and relink numerous photos, and at no time did pbase management answer my email inquiries re: what was going on or post a simple status message here. (In addition to which, two inquiries I attempted to post to this forum never appeared.)

I would appreciate it very much if someone would take a moment to let us know what's going on.

You are not alone -- the current problems have been around for a couple of weeks now.

To anyone of pbase ....

I'm from Belgium and use already for long time pbase.
I'm also working in the ICT departement of a large Belgium bank.
I know the feeling having technical problems but at least leave a simple message to the customer telling why the problems and when they will be resolved.

I am experiencing the same issues and also the same lack of response.

Granted my $23 a year (* 2 as I have two accounts) is not much, my word of mouth based on my experience worth a lot more.

Ignoring customer's e-mails is a bad thing to do. Letting problems go unresolved and unacknowledged is even worse.

For me, this happens at "original" size. If I view the image at reduced size (say medium), it displays okay.

And until this evening I could not regenerate one thumbnail so the image displayed at full size on the thumbnails page. This evening regenerating the thumbnail worked.

Pbase is having problems and I wish they would acknowledge the issue, respond to e-mails and then move quickly to fix the issue.

They have been hit with the same PHP hack as other PHP based websites. It is unfortunate but the other sites have responded, acknowledged the issue and have fixed the problems.

Maybe because I do not allow popups at all on my system is why I have not been infected. But it is a matter of time and if pbase does not resolve the issue quickly it will do them harm as users decide to move elsewhere.

I hope they resolve the issue as I do not care to move my images to a different solution.

Emily, thanks. Incidentally, it was not just popups - far more serious than that. As an example, I run XP SP2 and I got:

a) My hosts file was completely trashed with porn IP addressess
b) a new XXX toolbar was installed in IE
c) A resident proxy also got installed in my sytem (web.exe)

And all this after me sweeping every two days with spyware tools as well as running zonealarm.

I just wanted to make sure you knew the real effects of this break-in - went beyond just popping windows as your note indicates.

I fixed some of my own issues by replacing the missing images with copies off my HD. They are loading up very slowing though when I view them.

I would dislike having to do this for my entire pbase.com site.

My husband, TonyK, sent 2 e-mails and has not received a response. I see where no one has responded to his post here from Jan 11.

And now 5 pages of my images are not loading.

What gives? :x

I hate having 2 accounts (one for me and one for my wife) and thinking I am posting under her account name.

And I still have not received a response to my two e-mails or my origianl post here.

My wife has about 5 pages and I have to find those images to repair the damage.

None of my pictures are showing up, and I have them linked to my auctions which are ending and making me lose money because I have a bunch of damn x's on my auctions. I think they need to get this straight now. I am losing lots of money, and I pay to use this site they need to take care of this asap.
