Re: New Edit Page is fine BUT

Emily and Kirby, and all at Pbase admin: when will you implement an uploader for mobile devices? I do lots of iPhone and android photos and want the ease of upload I find at various other photo hosting sites. Right now I have to offload to a cloud storage site and then download, edit, and upload my phone pics from my macbook. Not very handy.

Yes, it would be very good to be able to upload from a phone or an iPad. Pretty, oh so pretty, please. :D

The "But I wish": I'm not too fussed that it doesn't have drag & drop straight from the Windows desktop; I think that the way the file select button has been implemented is much better than the old multiple upload dialog was IMHO. However I'd really have loved it if the lens data had been imported as well so that it didn't have to still be manually selected.

Yes, the EXIF extraction on upload has been revamped. Titles, captions, keywords, and artist are now automatically set if present in the EXIF. The flash fired issue should now be fixed. Automatic mapping of the camera has been improved.

I will see what I can do about adding auto-mapping of the lens from the EXIF.

akmc_in_au wrote:The less good: The dialog seems to convert HTML code into ASCII characters. For example, in my PAD I add a thumbnail to show what the previous year's image was. What goes up as this:
Code: Select all
<b>Last Year</b>
<a href="http://www.pbase.com/akmc_in_au/image/123313513/original" Title="Last Year"><img src="http://www.pbase.com/akmc_in_au/image/123313513/small.jpg" alt="Last Year"></a>

gets rendered as this:

Code: Select all
&#60;b&#62;Last Year&#60;/b&#62;
&#60;a href="http://www.pbase.com/akmc_in_au/image/123313513/original" Title="Last Year"&#62;&#60;img src="http://www.pbase.com/akmc_in_au/image/123313513/small.jpg" alt="Last Year"&#62;&#60;/a&#62;

It still renders fine on the "classic" dialog though.

If there's a setting to prevent that happening, I must have missed it.

This should be fixed now, sorry for the inconvenience.

Right now it isn't linked from your gallery or image pages. Once it comes out of beta, it will be linked in these places (just like how you would normally get to your edit pages). For now, just bookmark the edit page.

I may quit Pbase because I don't have those browsers and I cannot get them either. Oh well!
If Pbase still works the way we're used to with the older browsers I'll still be here.

Very nice - big improvement to the workflow when having to move things around, copy to other galleries, etc (took me twice to figure out that 'move' and 'copy' to gallery was a toggle choice on the left, as I first moved photos back and forth from one gallery to another intending to copy them).

Question/comment: I was unable to notice any way to leave the edit mode and go directly back to a gallery in normal viewing mode. There is the 'eye' icon on the left which allows one to view the current gallery, but it opens as a new window for me (IE8) - the edit window has to then be closed. In the old edit mode, the path bar remained along the top allowing you to click on the gallery name and switch the page over to normal gallery viewing in the same window. Is this some function which exists elsewhere and I missed it, or would there be a possibility of adding/restoring the ability to leave the edit mode and return to gallery view?

Well done Emily, it's good to see the field for flash is working and there is more information being extracted.

A few comments.
    1. The focus distance seems to miss this information for the Canon 1D mark III.
    2. The metering information appears to be incorrect. I converted a raw file, in which I used "spot" metering, with Adobe CS5 (ACR 6.3), the metering mode as viewed with ExifTool, the FxIf v4 plug in for Fire Fox and Windows file explorer properties both indicate "spot" metering, yet on PBase is indicates "multi spot (3)".

The file for the above comments

Lastly, if a replacement file is uploaded, will the EXIF be updated?

Thanks for the improvements & enhancements.

Appreciated. The fix on the HTML code seems to be working well too; thanks for that also.

Very cool update .............BUT ...is there any way possible to limit images size to thumbnail and original only ??

This would be vast improvement as the re-sized images always look soft and this is very bad for me.

Excellent. Love it. Thanks you guys. Patience is a virtue, and for those of us who wait patiently, you make the wait worth it. Now what else is cooking? :)
