Hi,

As noted above we will be adding the functionality to add images directly from within the comment description edit box. However you can currently get any images you want by creating a new gallery and copying any images into it. You would then specify this gallery in your SLIDESHOW().

The slideshow can be placed on your root gallery. There are no restrictions on which gallery it can be placed on.

As for centering your slideshow, check out http://www.pbase.com/slug/misc for an example. You can include your SLIDESHOW() in a table or div to get it centered. You can also edit your CSS to alter the style of #inline_slideshow directly.

Arjun has already figured out the answer to your question, Tsienni :

tsienni wrote:Hello,

I just tried, it didn't work out. :(

Here is the gallery in question:
http://www.pbase.com/tsienni/refugee

In the gallery description, I inserted this line:
SLIDESHOW(refugee)

Do I miss out anything? I probably didn't understand Slug's original post properly.

Cheers.

arjunrc wrote:FYI for those who see a blank screen and no slide show - you are most likely using some kind of 'header hiding' routine - you will need to edit that code to ensure that any images inside the #inline_slideshow are displayed. This does not affect all header hiding mechanisms - just some.

Oh, I see. I didn't read through all the replies posted. Thank you, Emily. If this slideshow works well, I have a small proposition: in the future, can we choose our photos and display them as a slideshow rather than those 4 random photos at the Profile page?

Arjun, so I take the liberty to ask, how to edit the code to "ensure that any images inside the #inline_slideshow are displayed"? Because, if possible, I still wish to have the slideshow under no header. My apologies.

Have a nice evening.

Chris, thanks for doing this so quickly. I was just at Slug's gallery to
check out how it works, and did see that all one has to do is make a small
subgallery (it can be non-public, from what I've experienced with showing
small images from one specifically linked) of images we want and then
putting that gallery's slideshow into our root gallery if we want
(or anywhere) and even into an HTML table if we want special placement.
It is darn flexible and easy-to-use.

Even before the tweaks you're planning, it's pretty darn impressive and
easy to make your own selections once you call the gallery with the few
pics you want. Slug had picked 'machines'...

I'll try it out. Good work ! As for subgalleries, it's a nice added feature
to choose from even if the subdirectory sibling links you've given us
earlier really help with getting people to related galleries AND with google
pickup of text describing actual content. I'm not sure I'd want to use it
in most subgalleries but definitely some.

Okay, I have a pretend-root gallery ever since some of us put up the
Luis Bunuel style galleries, and it's used as a secondary root or home.

Since I'm only experimenting for now, I realized I had a slides
subdirectory already because I used it for things like the Bunuel slideshow
on the homepage (still used at my webpage).

So I copied those 500-pixel images to a new non-public gallery
under the root, and called it 'slides' :-) since I have other pictures
in the existing referenced gallery.

Then I put the SLIDESHOW(slides) into the user description box and
it worked right away.

I decided to have text on the side so I just made an HTML table
of two columns, using a table of about width=70% for now. I had
not much text on this page! But any further text would just run down
the side as it does now, in the way it did for Bunuel's slideshow function.

My working sample is at http://www.pbase.com/andrys/abtravels

That's excellent work, thanks to all involved, like the function greatly.
Just one question:
How can I easily change the link from the slideshow to go directly into my galleries page, instead of accessing the gallery where I am storing the slideshow images? Or even disableing the link so I can have a textual link to the galleries instead?

Cheers,
neil.

Chris, as mentioned, really nice work! Ultra simple for the user.

Could you default to a shorter delay time? Current interval is
long and some will scroll down before seeing it's a slideshow.

Also, it drives me crazy to wait that long for anyone's slides online
in between slides. Internet users are impatient :-)

(My test implementation is under
http://www.pbase.com/andrys/abtravel
and not in my real root directory.)

and, lo.... I have done just that, Mr. Stone

I'm no whiz at doing my own "code" (or whatever this is) since I don't have to anymore, but I did manage to whack out something.

I'll have to tweak around and see if I can make it more elegant; but it works pretty well.

Thanks Slug and Chris, great effort on the part of Pbase to find a quick solution to a feature many users wanted.

Sorry, that test implementation of mine is in
http://www.pbase.com/andrys/abtravels

Sorry for the error in the link!

Jypsee, no, I have 4mbps a second on Ampcast.

I just prefer 1 or 2 second intervals for slides. Most people
don't have the patience to sit there and stare at slides.
They just want an idea, and we should get them to the actual
larger photos.

(Can't edit existing messages in this forum)

Chris, current slideshow interval is 5 seconds.

Wouldn't 3 seconds be a nice compromise?

Thanks for considering.

interval is just fine

believe it, or not, looking at a photo takes more than three seconds...
I have a gallery that has no thumbnails and the slideshow is the prints gallery (fine art prints that I sell) so I need the interval to be a little longer than three seconds

Great start, guys. I'll eagerly await the ability to work with large size images. Right now, it's great that you got something up and running.

I agree, 3 seconds is plenty, Andrys.

Tsienni, take a look at the CSS for http://www.pbase.com/arjunrc/for_pbase - this is temporary, so I will remove the slideshow in a few days
