New front page

If you haven't already seen it, take a look at the new front page which just went online at http://www.pbase.com

Chris Stone has been working for the last few months on a major site re-design.
We put the front page online for now, but the rest of the pages will follow soon for a more consistent cleaner look.

We started this project out with the simple intention of improving the look of things, but it ended up going much deeper than that.
Most of the underlying code has been rearchitected and written from scratch which will enable us to to have far more efficient development of new features by more people.

So expect to see updates to the rest of the public areas of the site soon.
This will include pages like the login/register page, recent/popular galleries, your profile page, etc.
At this time we will not be updating the look of your personal galleries and photo pages. We do have plans in the works for improvements there too, but we don't want to suddenly make a major change to the look of your pages without your approval.

Thanks again to Chris for all his work on this redesign. He also has some more fun features on the way which I've already been using myself and hope to get them online as soon as we can.

I really like the featured photographs, especially the main one, on the front page. The new look has directed me to some fresh work.

I hope that the images featured here will be rotated frequently - the same galleries kept on coming up on the old home page and that was a real failing.

Looking forward to more improvements.

The Jury is still out for me. Personally I liked seeing random Popular Galleries on the home page (I thought they deserved recognition). I also would like to see a direct link to the PAD Meta Gallery. I liked the PBase Magazine Thumbnail as well, (though I guess I'm being biased on that one considering I'm involved with it).

I will say that the new home page does have a cleaner look though.
