Improved Feature: Favorite Artists Page

Hi,

Nice new feature, I think this helps remembering what kind of pictures a user produces.

I found one or two problems though:

- in the "favorites" window, when I click on an artist to see his own list of favourites, the only thing I get is the message "has not yet selected any members for this group", which I'm sure is not true for all of the artists of my list!

- if I "copy/paste" the link to my favourites page (in my case http://www.pbase.com/favorites/jimclarck ) to a session where I'm not logged in, I get again the message "has not yet selected any members for this group". This prevents me from sending that link to my friends, which is exactly what I wanted to do.

Grüße,
Jim.

Emily has added links from the favourites page to the person's profile and recent galleries pages.
We had initially left them off in the interests of a clutter free page, but it sounds like many people think the utility outweighs the clutter.

Jim mentioned one thing i wanted to mention.
We've designed the URLs for page to make them easily linkable.
For example, emily has two public usergroups, one is the default favorites, and the other is called "people_ive_met"
The URL http://www.pbase.com/favorites/emily/people_i_have_met will take you directly to that page.

Also in response to Jim, both of those problems can be solved by clicking the "publish this group" link on the favorites page. If you publish it, then nonlogged in people will be able to view it.
And yes, unfortunately right now, the links to see someone else's favorites often just show that "has not yet selected" message.
Hopefully over the next couple of weeks, more and more people will discover the "publish this group" link and publish their favorites.

We were half tempted to force everyone's favorites groups to be public to avoid that problem. But there are a variety of reasons why this would have made people uncomfortable so we had to leave it opt-in.

I don't know..

I just checked all the people on my favorites list and only one has published theirs. I would hesitate to publish mine because I seldom use this feature and there a lot of photographer's sites I visit who aren't on my favorite's list. Therefore, I feel I might hurt their feelings because they aren't. It isn't that I'm not looking at their photos, just that I don't do it through Favorites.

So I wonder if others feel the same way. Anyway, this has the potential to just become another popularity contest vs. an excellence in photography venue. Popular photos and galleries has often been accused of that. But since it no longer works, it's a moot point now.

You guys are quick! ;-) Thanks!

And since you are so quick - here is another idea (not sure if your
database structure allows you to implement that easily): Why
not make the name NOT a link if that user has not yet published
their favorites?

Thats a fun new feature - keep up the great work...

Thanks for adding the links to PROFILE and RECENT. That seems to address most of the issues raised.

I did publish my list, but am a bit unsure. I don't really use it much. I mostly go through the PADs and try to make comments. But a few of my fav artists don't PAD. I used to get to them mainly through popular galleries and pictures.

Will test it for a while and may unpublish.--Rene

Ditto Sharon's reply - the 'Recent' link is just perfect now and will probably resolve the issue - much better.

Adding the Recent and Profile links really enhances the new system. Thanks for all your efforts.

Hi!

Slug/Emily:
Why when you click on some favorite artist you are directed to a picture? Why not to their main gallery (aka "root gallery")? A picture might not be the best way to get in topuch with someone´s work.

Thanks for everything as usual
