Sigh....spoken words above of wisdom I wished I had [i]had[i] a year back or so. The dang stats crashed on me again as well the past few days, and of course my overall number is the same since the crash.

What now? What is going on at Pbase? Will they just admit failure on this at some point and tell us frankly that we are screwed? I may finally come to prefer that vs. seeing the same bland number everyday that hasn't changed in God knows how long.

Please click the url below and let me know you did (how many times). Maybe leave a comment.
It 's just a test.

I will let you the total number of hits that will be given by the stats.
Have a good day.

I should like to let you the results of this test. But I cann't. No stats are available from Dec 8Th.
I can only mention that two people leaved a comment (less than I hoped for).

I have been thinking again about the problems with the hitcounts. This cannot be a difficult issue except in the case that old data are not available any more!!
Keeping stats with numbers per image per date is more difficult than stats just per image.
So the tables that contained the hitcounts per image must have been lost in the september crash.
Maybe this theory explains the high dec 4th numbers. My most popular image that day was hit only 3 times. Total number of hits was 2007. I think Slug and his team have viewed each image to store the hitcounts per image in a new table. When this job is done (and that 's the thing he asked our patience for) the hitcounts per image will be back.
The only thing Slug has to do now is let us know the progress of this job, say once per week!!

My statistics page shows up perfectly. My Profile page and the numbers there of total hits. That has not updated since the outage.

What is the best way to report this?

The payment page did work perfectly as usual. And Slug charge me a couple of credit's as usual the 7th December. That part will always work for Slug. The statistic he don't even care about any longer. Even too lazy to reply a couple of times every month. Really bad.............

Don't. It's already been reported numerous times. They're already aware of the issue.

They addressed it in the last update on November 23rd. http://www.pbase.com/message.html

The stats for dec 8th and 9th have arrived!!!
And did my test work.
The number of hits for the particular image was 21. Much more then I would expect without giving the url in my post.
Only three people told they hit the image. I viewed the image several times meself.
Conclusion; the number of hits seems to be effected by my post and the number of hits is higher than the number of declared hits by other people and myself.
The stats could be properly working. Putting attention on a particular image does have impact on the stats. I am glad to know.
Now we must (only) wait again for bringing up the hitcounts again.

I have also carried out some checks of my stats. Its amazing...............
I created a new Gallery on the 5th December 2009 and inserted photos taken that day...
Its had great hits! in the most viewed for the 29th and 30th November 2009 around a week before the photos were taken!!! The Gallery and Individual photos had hits according to the stats before creation...Do they have a 'Time Machine' transporting our photos into the past?
I think that PBase has also invested in a random number generator... May be its the one used for the Lottery?..
Still think I prefer comments (Good or Bad), at least you know someone has actually visited on the day.

What I see happening is that all the stats functions remain unstable and that is why there are so many posts on missing and wrong data being displayed. Based on the little info pB provides the the instability comes in some part from the reprogramming and tests that continue. I don't expect to see the stat related functions to stabilize until we met a message that says they have finished their work on the stat rebuild. Unfortunately that milestone continues to be a large unknown.

Well.. I wouldn't go so far as to say PBase is useless. It still serves a purpose but there are things that can be improved, GREATLY.

Why do you say that Pbase is finished? I agree that the ongoing lack of reliable statistics is irritating - particularly when we don't get any updates on the reason for the delay, BUT Pbase continues to make it simple for us to show our photos, and viewers to see them and comment on them, as well as it always did - and their new equipment has improved the overall availablilty and response times. Statistics apart, they continue to be helpful, friendly and efficient in dealing with any customer requests.

I don't plan to move away - Pbase suits me better than other that I've tried. but if Slug or Emily see this post, a weekly update would be appreciated!
