If you don't like the place, by all means, leave it. The $23 shouldn't break anybody who's into the expensive hobby of photography. You'll be doing yourself a big favor, reducing your stress level and living longer. You'll enjoy photography again. It's all good.

Well, if PBase is taken down (as you put it) by the "PBase trashers", it's no one's fault but the management. They could easily prevent most of the criticism by simply taking a few moments to communicate on a semi-regular basis. It seems pretty clear that they really have no interest in doing anything to improve the site and are content to simply collect our money. I think it's almost comical how poorly this site is run.

I agree that $23 is pretty low (definitely lower than it should be if the site worked properly) and that there are a number of good points about PBase. The problem is that the competition is continuously improving and PBase is stagnating or even going backwards. I'm certainly looking at other sites now and will no doubt move to another before my subscription here expires. PBase feels like a sinking ship that the captain and crew have abandoned.

And FYI, it is not a question so DON'T reply and move along.

If you have anything constructive to say fine. If not, PM me and I won't read it but I'll dump it in the trash. This way these forums can be used for their intended purpose and everyone else won't have to read your mental rants.

Again you are insulting my country and me personally so I will reply, with quotes too.

It would be too easy to dismantle you with stereotyping so I'd back off if I were you. However, I'm not the type to do that. I'll leave that job up to you since you are making a fool out of yourself already. Don't worry, I have no intention of PMing you and have no issues responding to you in the public forum. End this now by ending your repetitive, useless postings.

I know this wasn't a reply to me but I happen to be Canadian. While there are certainly "simpletons" in Canada, there are about 9.1x more American "simpletons". (That's the approximate ratio of the populations in case you couldn't figure it out.) There are also about 9.1x more assholes in the United States than Canada and it seems you're one of them.

Which sites is to be recommended?
Flickr and alike is not an option for me.

Kind regards.

The two I'm looking at are Zenfolio and Smugmug.

Jehan (and Emily and Slug) -

This is a great example of what you PBase administrators don't get about communication. You make an assumption and choose not to communicate anything based on that assumption. No communication does not mean we understand that you are continuing to work on the solutions to the problems. I suggest you get a better understanding of communication and operate accordingly, with an increased awareness of your past, poor communication practices.

Yes, I am not happy with the glitch that brought PBase to its knees. But I get really steamed when one of you administrators fumbles their way through yet another communication fiasco. Please, get a clue and change your behavior as administrators of PBase --- it's not all about making sure the electricity bill for the servers gets paid.

The data base is running extremely slow. And many artists are not even updating their galleries

Smugmug has some pretty neat features (like scalable thumbnails) but doesn't seem to have the same "community" as PBase. I also have a demo account with BlueMelon, but doubt I will do anything with that because it isn't real feature-rich and seems to have even fewer members than Smugmug. Zenfolio looks promising as being geared more towards a professional photo sharing site with some good features for taking orders and selling. I've just started a demo account there and will be running that through its paces.

I have already decided that I am not going to renew my PBase account. I'm sure I'll miss my PBase friends but I'll probably be happier in the long-run with a better user experience. Maybe one day PBase will come closer to being a great photo sharing site. I'm just a little jaded that it will be happening anytime soon, especially with how poorly the current administrators run the site.

Once you've reached the end of your tolerance, you're absolutely right to relocate. It makes a lot more sense than hanging around and castigating the place you're tired of.

I hope that you do indeed find what you are looking for.

I've moved to Zenfolio and i've been happy so far. They were down for about four hrs about a week ago but it was for scheduled maintenance and upgrade to system, adding functionality to the service. Upgrades, when was the last time you heard Pbase do that? This down time was also very well communicated to the users, what a novel idea. They also have a Facebook site to communicate to users.

Don't want to do an ad here for another service provider but... They offer 1gig/year for $25 and increase space by 1gig each year you remain as a member, so the service plan grows as your number of images do...

Save $5 by using this referral code: M8F-9HH-67G

Hi guys!
My internet system at home is full protected by a back-up system.
If there is no power main supply the system continues to operate for one hour.
Then starts an automatic safety shutdown system software and hardware.
My back-up system cost only 120.00 euro.(APC gear, http://www.apc.com)
I will not tell how is designed the same security system against the lack of tension in my work : two diesel generator , double batteries array of back-up system...etc.
Despite what we say on this forum, still do not understand what is REALLY happening to PBase.
Something I am not really convinced....
Best,
Paolo

Yes, hit counts, the one feature I enjoyed and looked forward to. Not almost a whole month later, and still nothing! Arggghhhh! Come on Pbase people, I know you are working hard, but when oh when will everything be back to normal?

People of Pbase - please communicate!
Last official communication is already 11 days old!

Can you please let us know when everything will be normal again.

Problems that I encounter:
- statistics are not working (last figures 23/9),
- comments of visitors are not always visible,
- creation date of a new album is not correct (date of creation is 23 september - date of the crash!).
