My canon yellow stopping printing. After getting it repaired I was told the problem was off-brand ink. It seems this is not a first. The ink I buy is normally 1$-2$ a cartage. Cannon ink seems to be 10$ a cartridge. If my print head will die every 8 months I would be better off buying a new print head instead of 80$ for my cartridges. My question is, is this true? Do all off-brand inks do this? If so can a canon user get good priced ink? If no what off-brand ink is good IYO.

It depends on the quality of the ink you're using...

Original brand ink is generally of a very high quality (although Epson does clog with it's older durabrite inks) whereas 3rd party ink can be very cheap quality and produces more problems over time.

Some forum searching should help you find some suitable ink from a good supplier but you're partially right that a new printhead is sometimes worth the hassle if it means you can print for cheaper in the long run.
