My first attempt at an HDR - High Dynamic Range photo

I have attempted 2 HDR photos while on holiday in Jordan. I thought this would make an excellent scene given the large dynamic range of the scene. I feel like getting a good result is not easy (at least with Photoshop HDR tool) and am not thrilled with my results. I feel like the midtones are bland and the photo has lost some sharpness.
I would appreciate some feedback(HDR or general), criticism, and solutions for both these 2 attempts and future attempts.
Regards,
Andrew

The second is definitely better. I think your problem is overexposure. Try cranking up the contrast a little in the second one.
