images not captured after pressing the shutter...any idea?

Post Fri Sep 28, 2007 5:09 pm

Hi , i was trying alll sort of things on my Canon EOS 5D and seems that whenever I try to go really slow on shutter and and hi on apecture, the images are not captured on the camera...in fact, nothing is recorded. Any idea why that may be the case? Its not the CF, it was in there and it was working ...the camera see to be working fine too.

I'm not sure did I understand right but check if you have mirror lockup turned on.
If you do then camera just get mirror up when you press shutter and doesn't do anything until you press shutter again.

We need more info to help you. What mode are you shooting : Manual, Av or Tv, Program et al?

If the camera can't focus on an object (while the lens is in autofocus mode) then it won't fire. However if you set it to manual mode it will always fire. Try and choose a point of light or something with good definition/clarity in your scene and focus the camera on that. Once you have got your focus, then set the lens to manual and fire away. Make sure your exposure is long enough. If the 30 seconds you can record without a shutter release is not long enough, then invest in one (RS80n3).

Good luck :)

Sounds like you have the self timer turned on, which is actually good for long shutter speeds-keeps you from shaking the camera when you hit the shutter.
