I've been using my Canon G11 camera for the past few months in order to refresh my memory once again. Unfortunately, what I thought was user error is really a malfunctioning camera. It operates fine in Auto mode but the settings wheel no longer allows changing of shutter or aperture. I think I found a fix on Youtube but now I need to work up the courage to do it! Until then, I'll try my Nikon.

December 23: Silent Morning - I walked a little later than usual this morning. It was very quiet and peaceful. Then went shopping for Christmas Dinner. It's only Adelaida and me for Dinner, but we're also giving Christmas Dinner to at least one neighbor who is by herself this year.

We love to cook together and watch movies while doing it, as we have a TV/DVD/Blu Ray player in the kitchen. We will be making Roasted Turkey Breast, BBQ'd Pork Loins, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Brussel Sprouts and stuffing. We will also make an Apple Pie. My contribution to the baking is to peel the apples, which I do pretty well. Despite the complete lock down here in California, we still have good time and eat well.

Another favourite place of course, is Larose Forest, very much part of my world here:

landscape I like

We took a drive through a neighboring subdivision that does a lot of decorations every Christmas.

A pine tree, always special in the days

December 24: Ominous

Almost every morning Turkey Vultures gather at this tree to warm themselves in the sun and presumably socialize.
This morning was too gloomy for that. In fact we have a Red Flag Warning for Fires and there is a 3,000 acre fire burning north of us.

I'm still working up the courage to try the fix on my old camera. Maybe this is a good thing though as it's forcing me to become reacquainted with my Nikon...

I just noticed that the carafe has a weird light on it. I had forgotten how challenging it is to take photos in December when it's almost always overcast or raining. Factor in the pandemic and I now fully understand everyone's frustration.

Many hugs and Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it and Happy Hannukah and Happy Holidays to everyone else.

A green Christmas, who'd have thought it in Ottawa. Here is what December should look like here:
