November 16: A Victoria Crowned Pigeon at the Owens Aviary of the San Diego Zoo. I've been a member of the Zoo for about fifteen years. For the last few months I have been going there every Monday for a change of scenery, a good walk and hopefully a few decent photographs. The pigeons are extremely curious and are not afraid of people.

The cuteness of a little cignet

A (wo)man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his/her life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful. (free to J.W. von Goethe)

My mother would find shapes in the clouds for me
it started me on a lifetime of looking up - sometimes to my detriment!

November 17: Ripening Lemons - This is a tree in our backyard. It gives us Meyer Lemons all year round, often the size of oranges. We also have Oranges which are seasonal. They will be ready in mid-December. Aside from picking fruit and occasional trimming these trees require no extra care at all, and they give us a lot of fruit.

Memories of a fun day with a 6 year old nephew who was thrilled by the animals we saw; now he is a teenager...

Brrrrrr...I know that the snow is overexposed but I struggled as the rest would be too dark. Overall, I'm pleased but am open to thoughts on how I could've done better. I should note that the snow was more of an icy blob as the temperatures were above freezing so maybe that attributed to the challenge?

November 18 - Morning Surprise - When I left on my walk this morning it was clear and still dark. On my way back a fog bank rolled in. By the time I got back the fog was very thick. I love the fog and the photographic opportunities it presents. Unfortunately, not expecting this I only had my phone with me.

As a child I was frightened of spiders, mum and dad taught me that they were ok and useful little beasties.
And then I had children and had to persuade them that spiders were ok and just another creature - albeit a creepy, crawly creature
We’re all fine with them now

It continues to be cold here and Winter is colliding with Fall. Lake Ontario is warmer than the air so we have overcast skies. This happens until there is a fair amount of ice covering the lake. It usually occurs sometime in January. Days like these I remember past tropical vacations....
