I'm kinda liking the fill the frame suggestion. I like to be challenged. That might be a good one.

Hmm..but I want to be creative, not framed in, like rocks, sand or shells!!

My top choices - Fill the Frame and A letter of the Alphabet

I'm all for something cheery as I too am tired with the grey, gloomy weather.

Light/Shadow is intriguing but would be hard for me at this time of year with the grey skies and they are saying that Winter will truly arrive in another week which means more grey...

Fill the Frame is intriguing but I don't know if I could find enough to fill a month.

Do we have a list of all the monthly challenge topics somewhere as a reference?

Brenda, I don't think we do have a list. I think those of us who started out doing the challenges just tend to remember. I'm thinking the letter thing is good as well, Brenda. I'm liking all the different ideas....

Okay, here are the topics to choose from:

Letters....things that start or resemble a letter, like an S (shirt) or a S shaped street...up for suggestions on the letter
Water...in any shape or form
Light/Shadow...light can be for stuff inside and out...same with shadow. Does not have to be taken outside.
Fill the Frame.....just what it says...fill the entire frame on what you are shooting.
Monotone...we've done this before but it has been a while.

We still have a little ways to go before the 1st, so if there are any other idea...let um rip and then we'll see which one the most folks like the best.

we have rain again... freezing rain tonight, regular rain for next 5 days.... it is nice it is not cold... but I haven't seen light for about a week or more when i did i was working so couldn't take pictures.,,, next Tuesday Wednesday snow... hmmm shadows..

What about Love? It could be things we love, unconditional love, symbols of love, love songs, love quotes, love poems, love expressions (tender looks, holding hands,...), movies with love, made with love, friendship, commitment,...

All good ideas so far - I like the 'Fill the Frame' suggestion, it could also become 'Abstract' - the last one I believe was August 2010.

Then there is always 'Song Titles' - the Pink Floyd month was terrific ( http://www.pbase.com/chrishadden/pinkfloydnov09 ) - how about Queen one month?

Ditto Laine's comments, Karen - all opinion is valuable - and makes one think.

The techniques are for me to use angles and low pov, dof and some....more, I guess!

It might be a good idea for someone to compile a list of all past challenges some day to provide an overview and to avoid duplication (not that duplication is necessarily a bad thing). If one person who does the challenges every month would volunteer to compile the list, then they could edit it every month by adding another challenge and the post would stay near the top of the discussion board for easy reference. Or perhaps Emily would be willing to create a way that the list of challenges stays on the top of the discussion board. Just an idea.

I hope we decide on one from this list. I asked myself what would be the most fun and different, but I'm torn on an answer. Guess I'm good with whatever the majority goes with. That being said 'monotone' is my least favorite. I've never done Fill the Frame and would like to, but a whole month of it? Maybe we could split the month, half fill the frame and half something else from the list

Hey, I really like that concept ......... split the month ...... 2 weeks of one thing, then 2 weeks (and 1 day ----- because it's Leap Year) of another. Great idea, Laryl.

and posted it on this forum.
I know there are many more so please pmail me what you have and I will add them to keep it all together

I'm liking Boris' idea. Maybe we should decide to do it for February, since it has Valentines Day. It can be AFFAIR OF THE HEART. Whether you use the color RED, or things you LOVE, or SEXY cars, or ROMANTIC streets or FLOWERS.

I like the light/shadow theme, but agree that people living where the sun is not much out this time of the year it's difficult!

The "Fill the frame" idea makes a very good topic! Inspiring and challenging, but possible for everyone...

I have started in a square format this year and that's very challenging to think your compositions... fill the frame in a square format ...

just my 5 cents:

Concerning the former challenges... I've been doing it for years, haven't kept records... but it doesn't matter if we have done a monochrome 2 years ago, we can do it again... it will be different... So I wouldn't bother so much about older topics ...
