That might be a good one. Everyone can brush up on their night images. I'd be up for this.

That would definitely be a challenge for me ...... it's been years since I've done any night photography.

But I'd be up for it ....... would definitely push me out of my comfort zone!

It will be a challenge to me too - but I'm keen. I need to learn how to take night shots

There is a post card sold locally. It's all black and it says on it "West Virginia at Night." I'm afraid I will have to pass on this one. There just aren't enough night time photos I could imagine getting for an entire month. Plus in a week or two, it will be in the 20's (F) at night. It's already in the 30's.

But it's a great idea and I will look forward to seeing everyone else's entries and I might be able to get a few. I'd like to brush up on night photography too.

I enjoy seeing other people's night photographs, but I live on the outskirts of a small rural town that just installed its second traffic light. Limited opportunities and cold night time temperatures here are not making this a "must-do" for me in November. I might be more interested in this theme in December when people have Christmas lights on their houses though.

Have themes of "closeups" or "abstracts" or "double exposures" been done recently?

I love night photography and would love to have this as a Challenge. :D I also live out in a rural area and would need to make a trek into Philly or Wilmington for some night photos. But, I also think I could find some places within a few miles of my home too.
November can be a challenge for some of us Yankees to make photos in the bitter cold; but I did it in France last January, so it is possible....

I've got John beat. The closest town to me has one traffic light. :) I'm not a Yankee but I live at 3000 feet altitude and it is cold already. I am recovering from pertussis (whooping cough) so it just isn't going to be possible for me. Like I said, if the opportunity presents itself I will try to get some night shots. The first snowfall would be pretty and will occur in the time period. And I will enjoy everyone else's photos.

I can think of 5 or 6 night shots in my small town... if someone drives by I can get car trails.... Usually I save this theme for when I am really depressed in winter like December January when there is nothing but darkness all day long because of rain and snow then it gets really dark about 4 pm... not keen on going to that place yet..... but it is swan migration season here so I would rather do that then wait for a car to go by at night.

It's beginning to sound like a lot of people would have to pass on a "night photography" theme. Perhaps we should come up with something else.
Being so new to the group, I don't know what you all have done in the past, but I was wondering about something like Food & Drink. Surely everyone has access to that.
(Just my 2 cents)

Too bad night photography won't work, I would have liked it. Looking back through the archives, we did "Food" in September 2009. As for John's ideas "closeups" or "abstracts" or "double exposures". I recall we tried to do close ups, but I think we could not do it because not everyone had macro lenses. We did do abstracts in January 2009, but the title was "Minimalism". As for "Double Exposures" that would be a new one, but perhaps a bit too challenging for some. I don't know. We could of course repeat "Food" or "Abstract" those themes can be done easily.

An idea idea that I could offer would be "My World" where participants would show images of the environment they live in. These images could be taken inside your homes, around them, they could be landscapes in your area etc. All the ideas offered so far "night photography", "food", "closeups", "abstracts", "double exposures" could be used to show your world. Just an idea. I am sure we can find a theme. :D

I like My World. It could be literal or abstract. It could be your actual environment or an interest or hobby. You could go inside your head (would be very scary in my case:) or ride around town if you have one. GMV.

I would have liked night shots if it had been doable for me. I also like double exposures but not everyone's camera can take them, I don't think? However, I think I might try that too within My World because they are really challenging and fun. I'm also going to shoot the first snowfall at night.

Another idea might be animal shots (wildlife, birds, pets, etc.). I for one would love to improve my skills in this area! :D

As for night photography ~ why couldn't we shoot photos within our homes via candlelight or natural lighting without using a flash. A tripod would be necessary but it would be a good way to work with long exposures. I don't know, I may be off base with this idea...

I like "my world".

We did "the ground I walk on" in April 2009, but that was two and a half years ago. And "my world" gives more space for interpretation.

Greetz,

Maaike

btw:
We did do abstracts in January 2009, but the title was "Minimalism".
: we actually did "abstracts" in august 2010
