This year's 4th of July parade had a strong military presence. There were many family members and friends of service men and women who marched to remember and recognize them. When active and veteran members of the service appeared, they were greeted by loud, spontaneous, and enthusiastic cheers and applause. Many wore sober faces, especially the mothers who carried posters of their sons and daughters who have died for their country while serving. This marine seemed much to young to be wearing so many war decorations. His face is not one we often associate with battle tested warriors. It's clear that freedom is not without cost.

Apologies for my tardiness...visitors over the weekend until Monday with a birthday celebration as well...
Also for using archive images to make the collage ( made today ) :D

Freedom in my country is pretty much taken for granted...we have never had a war on our shores, though our men & woman have taken part in
every major conflict throughout the world serving as soldiers, nurses & peacekeepers....
I am happy to live where there is Independence and Freedom for all.

I had a bit of trouble coming up with an entry for this week's challenge. But this morning I was watching the Mississippi River at the little town of Blakeney west of Ottawa, and the sight of the river and its powerful rapids made me think of "freedom": http://www.pbase.com/laroseforest/image/126257968
