Rip off Site - unrequested copying / use of images

Post Sat Feb 21, 2009 7:14 am

I wanted to make other pbasers aware of a site that is using pbase images without consent. A fellow pbaser made me aware that one of my images was being used at this site:

http://www.polyvore.com/red_fishnets_ph ... id=1043549

Altho I am credited with having taken the image, I'm somewhat peeved because the user never asked for permission to 'borrow' the image. My copyright notification is pretty clear - I request that people ask before copying (and I generally give permission).

So, you might like to give the site a look - there is even a tag that will take you to all 'borrowed' pbase images!! - and see if there is something there of yours that you'd like removed. I recognized several in the quick look I gave the galleries.

I have written th site and have asked that they remove the photo above and any others of mine that may have been borrowed.

Thanks to John Lamb for notifying me!

Thank you Jude.

Yes, I've found my Gucci watch there http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/search.thin ... com&page=9

But as far as the credited me, there's no problem.

Hey Adal ... I suppose, if nothing else, we're providing that site with more hits :!:

No doubt some of mine are there somewhere, but at the moment it's slower than pbase

I see Adal's Gucci watch is only 300x300 pixels, so at least it's hardly like to be sold at that size - but I agree about the principle - where are people's manners?

I have spotted some belonging to sushilee, richard calmes etc.

P.S. - Adal; I hope the watch is still on your wrist ;)

Yes, I think that's the right question, it's all a matter of manners.
And manners are essential on Web 2.0.

Seems other sites have found the way to disable the Polyvore clipping tool.

We would like to express our appreciation to the members who sent us emails regarding the polyvore.com website. I forwarded the information to Slug. He was appalled at the blatant disregard for our member's work and the copyright laws. Slug has sent an email to polyvore.com requesting a complete removal of all PBase images. We aren't expecting them to hurry to fulfill our request, but at least they have heard from our administrators directly.

Manners are dead and it isn't just on the web. Sadly, most of the world no longer seems to teach them, learn them or care about them.

Polyvore is back up to 6pages of PBase images... some have been 'clipped' within the last few months.
I've sent them an email, but you may want to check for unauthorized copies of your images and file a complaint with them.
