In Ireland our commitment to education goes back nearly 2000 years. Now, at the first whiff of an economic crisis, education cuts are being proposed that will not benefit our children. Our political thinkers would do well to ponder on the symbolism of the sculpture outside the Department of Education, which seems to be extending an imaginative and generous hand to those in its care.
