PBase Meet-ups ~ Hints and Tips

Post Thu Oct 04, 2007 11:55 pm

Thought it may be an idea to repeat some of the points I made in the April 2006 edition of PBase Magazine regarding a succesful meet-up.

* Plan well ahead, say 6-8 weeks ahead to maximise people's availibility.
* Choose a location that provides varied photo opportunities whatever the weather.
* Choose a rendezvous that is safe, identifiable and gives shelter from inclement weather.
* Consider a second meet-up time to catch stragglers.
* Meet for a drink at the end of the day's shooting so you can chat about the day and bid farewell.
* Promote the meet-up on the PBase PaD forum; take a lead in the location and date.
* Agree the detail via e-mail for security and safety.
* Circulate maps, and if possible a photo of the meeting point.
* Use at least one mobile phone as a point of contact.
* Remind people as the day approaches.
* Familiarise yourself with the work of photographers attending you don't know.
* Have fun, and don't forget the spare cards and batteries!

Might be a good idea to bring a camera along too.

You never know when there might be something worth taking a snap of!

Hey, you making fun of me! LOL! That is exactly what I did when I met up with Ron Walls on Skyline Drive! How can someone forget their camera for a meet-up!

I can imagine the scene.
An old bizarre man, grey haired and grey bearded, gets in the pub (or the coffee bar or what).
After a quick glance around (he is a photographer), resolutely heads to a table crowded with people chatting.
Once identified his prey, with his most shining 32 teeth smile...
"Mr. Chusid (or Pettit, or Waine), I presume..."

Yes, one day I will arrive incognito.

If you are planning to turn up in a beige 1963 Fiat, your cover has already been blown!

A quick stop near Zoetermeer/the Netherlands would be nice. I'll hop on too.
