Uploading pics on to the forum - IMPORTANT!

Could you please help everyone by not posting large images on the forum, as it can be troublesome for some people, especially if they have dial-up. Remember, some photographers do not have access to broadband in their area.

So please suffix your image URL by addidng /small.jpg or /medium.jpg

Remember, if they want to study your pic in all its glory, they can click on the pic to see it in your gallery.

Thanks!

Ray

I wonder if this should be a feature request so if the IMG tag is used it only displays the picture at a certain size?

There needs to be at least a choice between small or medium.
Having just one wouldn't be a good thing IMHO.

Since the forum images are for display purposes generally and
linked to the photographer's image in their gallery, I wouldn't
miss seeing the full sized image here as long as I could view it
via the hotlink.

One look in the Show And Tell section of the forum and you can
see how those large images just seem like overkill.

BIGGER ain't necessarily better.

I'd go with no, because sometimes if I want to post direct links somewhere else on the web, I want to use the full size versions.

But we're talking about the size of the picture used within the Pbase forums, and won't have any impacts in what you do elsewhere on the web.

Exactly HOW does one post a photo to the forum or a contest?

First, get the URL for the image page. Either
1. right-click on the thumbnail in the gallery or your upload edit page and select "Copy Link Location" (or the equivalent in your browser)
or
2. actually visit the image page and copy the URL from the address bar

Then, in your post, type the following, replacing PAGE by the URL you copied above (type Ctrl-V to paste it):
[url=PAGE][img]PAGE/medium.jpg[/img][/url]
Change "medium" to "small" for a thumbnail. Don't forget to Preview before hitting Submit.

I've only recently joined and I am fairly new to forums. Also copy and paste is new to me. On other forums I have copied and pasted photos from a webhosting site, but the images are very large when they appar in the forum post.
Thank you for your advice on posting thumbnail size pictures on this site. I will try it out later.
Is it only possible to post photos from your own site gallery in this forum? I mean, if I would like to post a photo, do I have to upload it to my pbase Gallery first?

Sorry, I'm no expert on this sort of thing, but I have a few 'dump' images on Photobucket and have imported an image here.
In this case Photobucket has provided the suffix small.jpg to the basic URL .
To get the actual image showing in the forum I have to prefix the URL with [img]and.suffix.it.with[/img]

If you right click on the image and chose properties you will see the URL.

But it might be more straightforward to load on PBase and do it from there!
