These dreaded Red "X"s

Post Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:42 am

I have no idea if Pbase administration is listening us, but meanwhile I had some of my galleries are 90% with red "X". I know it's temporarily and probably in several hours it will be back again, but what if you just posted PAD image and you want everyone to see it, but it's return just red "X'?

Well, I think I might found the way to fix this right away. You probably won't do it for the entire gallery, but for one image what the heck... worth to try.

So. If your lovely picture is showing red X even for you, here what you can try to do. Click on "Edit pciture" and then on the edit page, UNCHECK the "This image is publicly viewable" button. Then hit update. Then "CHECK" same thing again and hit update one more time. Now try to view your image. It worked for me 100% I've tried. Still there is no guarantee it won't happen again, but for several hours you night be good.

Michael.

Red X's

Post Sun Feb 18, 2007 4:34 am

February is the "red" month.

How about right clicking on the x and "show picture"?

Don't know about a Mac, but it works for me.

I love Pbase.

Right click on 'show picture' in this case is not making it happen, kathie. I have however found in some instances if you comment it will appear then :?

If you are using IE hold down the Shift key and hit Refresh and the picture will load - I have done this every time I find a red x and it has worked each time.

Hope this helps :D

I tried this shift+refresh many times it never worked for me, since that just reloads the page ignoring the cached page on the browser side. The problem with red "X" is not in the browser cache, it's on the Pbase server. It's fluctuated. If at the time you hit Shift+refresh problem on the server was fixed somehow, then it helps to load image instead the red "X" if not you still see the "X"

If you get up, dance for 12 seconds, then spin in your chair, and say, RED X BE GONE six times in a LOUD voice...it doesn't help.

I find that if you eat six big chocolate chip cookies, one bag of Twizzlers,
drink three root beer floats and put on your sunglasses...

...you'll still see 'x's but you'll have a smile on your face before the bellyache arrives.

I thought all was going too well. if a right click show picture doesn't work do a ctrl + f5 to force a refresh.

Right click, Show Picture has been working like a charm this month.

the red-x disease is just one of the pests we may encounter, it's pretty annoying indeed!

here are some tips that might work.

- first, load the picture in the smallest size. once it appears, it will do so in bigger formats as well
- putting /small.jpg behind the pic's browser-adress will at least show the picture
-choosing the slide show will also show the picture once you get there. click "pause" and enjoy....

it's no use whatsoever to re-upload the picture, because the problem is with the server, not with you...
cheers, Olivier
