handy lens

Post Sat Dec 16, 2006 9:40 pm

I know I'll get told off for posting in the PaD gallery - but I've just upgraded to a Nikon D200 (from the 8800) and 'invested' in one lens so far the 17-55 f2.8 etc.

It's heavy... and at the moment I'm being very careful with everything. I thought it would be good to get a Paddable (ie carry anywhere) lens to go with the D200 - anyone recommend anything?

I'm after the 18-200VR, funds permitting. Read the review at http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/18200.htm - he raves about it. Given the camera it's going on it will be a snip, if you can find it!!! Wolf Cameras are the cheapest and they've told me it takes 2 weeks to get it from Nikon.

Thinking about it, not as well rated, but certainly a cheaper option may be the 18-135 that comes as part of the kit with the Nikon D80.

Lens for D200

Post Tue Dec 19, 2006 4:32 am

Frankly the most versatile and economic lens though excellent quality is the Nikon 18-70 mm (28-120 equivalent). I have over 10 Nikon lenses. This is the newest, its coating is better than any other lens, expensive or not (may be with the exception of my Angénieux 28-70 f 2.6, although...).
