If you create a new gallery (or any gallery you have in fact) and click the button to edit the gallery, at the bottom you will see a box to tick that says 'click here to make this your PAD gallery'.

Once you have done this, it means that each time you upload a new photo to the gallery it will appear in the 'meta gallery' http://www.pbase.com/pad at the time it was uploaded. Only your latest uploaded pic will appear, the previous one you uploaded will disappear from the meta gallery. You only ever have one photo at a time in it.

Most people upload a new pic everyday to this gallery. Or take a pic everyday and upload it when it is convenient. If you don't do one everyday, or put up one not taken that day then nobody will bother too much.

I think the original idea was that if you take a picture everyday, and post it for people to see, then this would improve your skills and technique. And the PAD 'metagallery' came into being so that people could easily see what other people doing the same thing were up to.

But there are no rules and nobody will really mind if you do things your own way.

Well kinda... There are quite a few individuals that frown down on those that post multiple uploads in a single day simply because it pushes all others back.
I love photoshopography.......

The only thing I would add to this would be that you do not add more than one image a day to the gallery. If you do this your images will keep on showing in the meta gallery and result in someone not having an equal share of the space.
Obviously there are times when you need to catch up and you can get around this by uploading more than one image at the same time.

If you do have more than one image to show then simply create a PaD extra's gallery and link the images to your PaD shot for that day.

and most importantly enjoy your year, it's about you after all :)

So, since I can only shoot on my off days I can shoot extras on them and post one a day on the days I work?

I don't know why not. There is no hard and fast rule. I think the intent is to keep new work flowing and a challenge, and I don't think anyone would want to restrict someone because of their work schedule. I would personally rather see someone make up a day or do that than someone who just sticks their camera out the window and snaps a picture with no heart just to say they took on a picture that day.

Myself, I just like to see new (not previously posted) work. I just hate going to a "PAD" picture and finding some picture a person has had on their site for six months but they reloaded trying to get hits in some pathetic bid for attention. I note those sites and never return to them.

I believe, and God knows I am not always right and am pretty new to PAD myself,, but if you can have some fun, some challenge, and practice out of it- go for it. The more the merrier.

Rules

Doing a Picture a Day for a year is challenge. The rules should be your own, but respectful of the community meta gallery.

Most important - have fun!

Over the past year, I have become a better photographer and learned tremendously from the wonderful photographers on this web site.

It's a journey. The destination is not the reward, but each step of the way!

Enjoy!

Joan
