Poll: What's Your Screen Resolution ?

Post Tue Oct 25, 2005 7:22 am

I'd like to collect some stats about the people on PBase.
Namely, what's your monitor size and what resolution
do you have your screen set for?

Thanks,
CJ

I'm on a 19 inch LCD monitor that's set to 1024x768.

The discussion began on the Yahoo 10D group because I was getting
tired of folks who ask we look at their images and then finding
the images are so large you need to scroll just to see them.

It was suggest to me that perhaps the problem is my own because
I'm viewing things at a 1024x768 screen resolution size. But from
the stats I've been able to gather so far, this seems to be that
indeed the most popular screen resolution size today is
1024x768 (hence, I stand by what I said).

Anyway, in as much as many folks to to PBase to view images,
I just thought I'd ask the folks here what screen resolution size
they each use. After all, if we're going to show our pictures to
others, they're perhaps going to be more inclined to keep looking
at our shots if they're presented in a way which is easiest to view
(i.e. not so small that we have to squint at them, but also not
so large that each image requires the need to scolling -- a
pain in the a** activity if someone wants you to view tens,
or perhaps hundreds of images).

And I submit this gallery as a size that's easy for viewing regardless
of whether the images are horizontal, or square, or vertical...

Anyway, that's what the enquiry is about... just to find out what
other folks here set their screen resolution size to.

1024x768 is pretty average, though I still run into individuals running at 800x600. Since purchasing my widescreen I always have to remember the whole size thing.

In web design, you always go for the lowest common denominator. That right now is 800 x 600.

The majority of the planet seems to be playing on the 1024x768 field. The big issue is that their are those lucky few that have the best that technology can offer. They believe that if they can afford a SXGA or UXGA monitor then everyone else should go out and buy one as well.

I would think that sticking with a 1024 x 768 image or an 800 x 600 image would make most people happy. You can always offer up a higher resolution to those wanting the uber pixel'd versions of your photos, but the rest of the world will be just as happy to view your whole picture in a high quality, high res, single screen, no scolling shot.

Ditto sort of

I use a 19 inch CRT monitor set at 1024x768 and I post most of my pictures on pbase at 800x600 or less.

I especially try to cut down the height as 800 does not show completely with my settings, but no longer than 800 on the longest dimension and no more than 150kb.--Rene

1280x1024
I resize at 800 horizontal.
700 vertical to avoid scrolling by the average viewer.

I'm probably missing something somewhere but, 1024 x 768, 640 x 480, 1280 x 960, and 1600 x 1200 all have the lowest common denominator of 4 x 3, which gives off the same image sizes proportionally. I tried switching my monitor Nec 21" to 1280 x 1024, which a lot of people use, and everything looks squashed vertically. The lowest common denominator for 1280 x 1024 is 5 x 4.
Am I missing something? And if so, what is it?

I also belong to the Canon 10D group that CJ belongs to and have been following the thread about resolutions.

I'm not saying anything other than a multiple of 4 x 3 is wrong, just that anything other than the 4 x 3 multiple (at least on my screen) really looks weird.

I forgot to mention that using 1280 x 960 on my 21" monitor gives off approximately the same size images and fonts that I get when using 1024 x 768 on my 19" monitor.

I don't upload anything larger than 700x466
