Want to make a PAD club?

Post Fri Oct 21, 2005 9:04 pm

I want to get some people who really shoot a photo-a-day to grow and expand their knowledge and skill in photography. I will add you to my favorites and comment when something strikes me…and if you don’t mind when something I think could be benefited with some constructive criticism. I do not in any way think I’m a teacher and that you will be blessed by my comments. I think with a group of people who strive to shoot better and make more striking photos the comments will be more true and beneficial. I don’t want people to ask to join who just want their pictures looked at and sugar coated comments made…the normal PAD gallery is perfect for that. I want maybe 10-20 that will all add each other and will look at everyone’s photo everyday…when time allows. I’m not saying that I will comment everyday because sometimes the photo looks good but there really isn’t anything to say or the photo is just alright and not worth nitpicking on what you could have done to improve it…I have at least a hundred that fit in both categories. If you think you would like to join and be an active member in this group just leave a message…and hopefully we will all benefit from doing this, and might even make some new friends.
Thanks for taking the time to read my little essay

I think it's a good idea, I'll play. I'm thinking of stopping the PAD thing anyway, I spend way too much time on it, and really want to focus on portrait work anyway, but I'm up for honest and constructive critcism

Give it a go, allowing for time pressures (which are heavy at the moment), Mmmm how do you choose if you have more than 20 who want to play? :)

Sounds good

I am just getting back into the PAD again I have been shooting sports events all summer and my drive and creativity is a little well lackluster right now, personaly the challenge of doing it again sounds good.

My pad year is up for a new subscription on the 31st...:) I'm willing to give it a go but, I don't think I am up to the level as the others who have commented on this post. That may be a good thing for me but, not necessarily a good thing for everyone else.
I would not be able to post a new image everyday for physical reasons (six bad discs in my neck and back), so, if that is required then you all (ya'll in Kentucky) would be much better off without me.
I'll try it if you're willing to let me.......

PAD Club

Post Sun Oct 23, 2005 9:39 pm

I would be interested in such a venture. My PAD goes until the middle of next February. I can very often guess which of my images will get a half dozen "Ooh, nice shot" and which ones will be ignored, but really constructive criticism is mostly non-existant for the probable fear of being offensive. I also am not good at leaving comments, so this would give me practice in that area, if I knew the recipient wanted my 2 cents.

I would be very interested in doing this but I lack time throughout the week. I am very interested in what people have to say about my work and how they think I can improve it. I like the PAD thing as well but it can be time consuming.

My work can also be a bit out there. I like grain in photos, still work with film occasionally, and enjoy experimenting. I like this idea very much and think it is great but as long as my comments are not expected daily. Work and family can take up a lot of time. I also know that is much the case with everyone involved.

I do have experience with critiquing even though most of my comments are short with most photos but that is also due to lack of time but why not as long as you are willing to look at my work I will look at yours and I would take the time to comment properly when I can.

I appreciate all the replies…and I have added all that wanted to be apart of this to my PAD list. If this is to work everyone else should add all the others in this thread and just begin commenting on those you feel like it. If you like something state what you like…if something stands out which bothers you and you think the photo could be benefited from a little tweaking in a certain area say that…just be specific. I don’t want people to think they have to find something wrong with every photo…sometimes that might be exactly what the photographer was going for, if they weren’t then it should be received with open arms and maybe we can all learn a few more things about photography. Like I said just try and look at all the photos of the “group membersâ€

I would like to join the group. Sorry, for a late reply. I have been out of town and just got back this evening. I want honest critiques. I can stand whatever you have to say. I may not totally agree, but I will always listen respectfully and think about the suggestions and comments seriously.

I will start adding each of the responders to a group and will start commenting on your work. I may not get to comment each day. Sometimes family and work step in and take all of my time, but I will try.

Thanks for getting this started.--Rene

I'm guessing this is a little twist on last weeks request. You know I'm in. You hit the nail on the head of my original reason for PaDding. Now it is just an obsession 8)

Interesting idea! Love to follow this one but time wise I'd be unable to participate currently. Like to see what you do though...

I'd like to be part of this as well. My original reason for joining pbase was for critique - good, bad, what needs to be improved and all - and choosing to PaD fit in with that and my goal to stretch myself beyond newspaper photography into a creative challenge.

I've created a PaD Club usergroup and added you all to it. Most of you are already in my favorites but having a smaller group may make it easier to comment. This may also be what I need to get my ass moving again.

I will also continue to cruise the PaD Metagallery as often as possible.

I have added everyone to a critiques usergroup so I can quickly see all of your new/recent work.

I have one question. Are we to primarily focus on critiquing the PAD posting or the recent posting, or any images that strike our fancy?

Thanks, Rene

I think all photos are up for commenting...but thats my opinion...anyone have photos they wouldn't want comments on?? I wouldn't know who wouldn't want comments but I'm sure there are some.
